How Iowa football’s resiliency fueled unexpected surge in Big Ten West
MINNEAPOLIS — Kirk Ferentz will be the first person to say he does not “know anything about gambling” and is “not advocating” for it.
But the 24th-year Iowa head coach gave a little retrospective gambling wisdom after his team won its fourth straight Big Ten game following a three-game losing streak.
“I’d guess if you put 10 bucks on us four weeks ago, you’d probably be OK,” Ferentz said. “It probably would have been a good deal. You’d probably have a hard time finding any takers on that one.”
Iowa now is the favorite to win the Big Ten West, with a 3-8 Nebraska team as the last one standing in the Hawkeyes’ way.
As Ferentz’s gambling talk alluded to, the comeback to a potential division title that’s now probable seemed rather improbable earlier in the season.
Darnedest defender Jack Campbell keys darnedest win in darnedest Iowa season
MINNEAPOLIS — Jack Campbell gave a fourth-quarter pep talk to his defensive teammates about the “why,” then proceeded to be the who, what, where and when.
The All-America-to-be senior linebacker’s five ‘W’s carried the Iowa football team to a big ‘W,’ a 13-10 win at Minnesota that set up the Hawkeyes for a second-straight Big Ten West title if they beat Nebraska at home Friday.
Numbers and notes from Iowa's 13-10 win over Minnesota.
Iowa moves closer to Big Ten West title with late heroics against Minnesota
MINNEAPOLIS — From a literal standpoint, Iowa’s 13-10 win over Minnesota was at a cold and windy Huntington Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
But metaphorically, it might as well have been in Champaign, Ill., or even the Indianapolis suburbs, considering how much closer Iowa is on the road to the Big Ten championship game in Indianapolis.
Iowa’s win over the Golden Gophers (7-4, 4-4) in the final minute, along with Illinois’ 19-17 loss in the final seconds to No. 3 Michigan, moves the Hawkeyes (7-4, 5-3) one victory away from repeating as Big Ten West champions.
Final: Iowa 13, Minnesota 10
The Hawkeyes (+2.5) force two key fourth-quarter turnovers and escape Minneapolis with Floyd of Rosedale again.
Iowa (7-4, 5-3) is tied with Purdue atop the Big Ten West and just has to beat Nebraska on Friday to return to the Big Ten championship.
Minnesota falls to 7-4, 4-4.
IT'S GOOD
Drew Stevens hits the 21-yard FG with 28 seconds left.
Hawkeyes 13, Gophers 10.

Oh my.
Kaliakmanis intercepted by Jack Campbell. Returned all the way to the Minnesota 45-yard line.
Whole new game with 2:06 to go.
The Pick-6️⃣ was taken off the board (stepped out of bounds), but it's still an INT.

Minnesota ball. 4:11 to go. Ball on the Minnesota 45-yard line.
Iowa has all three timeouts. Minnesota has two.
FUMBLE.
Mo Ibrahim now has the Huntington Bank Stadium record for rushing yards in a game with 243, but he coughs up the ball, and Deontae Craig recovers it. Wow. That's a game-changer.
Five minutes to go. Iowa ball on the Iowa 9-yard line.
Minnesota now has drives of 73 and 88 yards that did not result in points.
Iowa 10, Minnesota 10 (13:59 4th)
A Petras pass to a *wide* open Nico Ragaini deep down the field goes off Ragaini's fingertips.
Instead, Tory Taylor goes out to punt.
Iowa is about to punt from the 36-yard line.
Doesn't look like Petras even saw Terell Smith on a first-down sack from the Minnesota 26.
Minnesota ties it at 10
Another big play from Mo Ibrahim. This time a gain of 54 yards.
Would've taken it to the house had it not been for Cooper DeJean.
27-yard FG for Trickett. This could be an interesting finish.

Petras can't hold onto the snap and fumbles it. Recovers it for a loss of 6 on second down.
Drew Stevens hits a 38-yard field goal. Big play from Petras to LaPorta put Iowa in field-goal range. Then the drive stalled.
Iowa 3, Minnesota 0 (9:01 1st)
Well, that's a good start offensively.
Spencer Petras to Sam LaPorta for 58 yards (almost all of which came after the catch). Hawkeyes are almost in the red zone.

Pregame Iowa injury updates
• WR Arland Bruce IV is participating in early warmups.
• As expected, no Beau Stephens in warmups.
It was 20 years ago, when anarchy followed an Iowa-Minnesota football game
Twenty years ago this week, Iowa fans toppled the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome’s south end zone goal posts and carried an upright up the stadium steps after the Hawkeyes’ 45-21 win over Minnesota.
It was anarchy within the most-militaristic of American sports. It also was comical, especially the realization there was no way the upright was going to leave via the stadium’s revolving doors.
The Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission billed Iowa $2,761.15 for the goal post. The price of Iowa football lore.
NFL scouts in attendance
Scouts are expected from the Packers, Vikings, Chargers, Dolphins and Colts for today’s Hawkeyes-Gophers game.
Fun Facts: Iowa-Minnesota, the Kourtney Kardashian edition
1. Iowa was outgained by 132 yards by the Gophers last year, but still won, 27-22.
Consider me shocked: The Gophers are leaving the roof open for today's Iowa-Minnesota game.

3 keys for Iowa football against Minnesota
The high temperature for Minneapolis on Saturday is supposed to be 17 degrees.
The winning team’s point total in the Iowa-Minnesota game might not be much higher. The over/under for Saturday’s contest is 32.5.
Iowa football vs. Minnesota: TV, live stream, point spread, predictions
The Floyd of Rosedale Trophy is, of course, on the line. A spot in the Big Ten championship game requires a win (and more work to do). And the high temperature for Saturday’s game between the Iowa Hawkeyes (6-4, 4-3) and Minnesota Golden Gophers (7-3, 4-3) at Huntington Bank Stadium in Minneapolis is a mere 18 degrees. Big Ten West football!
