How the ranked teams fared in Week 9

 

There were only three ranked matchups on this week’s Iowa high school football schedule, but still plenty of intrigue.

 

It was the last week of the regular season for 5A, 4A and 3A teams and the first round of the playoffs in 2A, 1A, A and 8-Player.

 

Here’s how the teams ranked in this week’s Gazette poll fared Friday night.

Linn-Mar brushes past Cedar Rapids Prairie, 28-13, to clinch Class 5A playoff berth

 

The Lions got three touchdown runs from Carter Henderson and assured themselves a playoff bid, The Gazette's Jeff Johnson writes.

Graham Beckman returns, Iowa City Liberty routs Clinton in regular-season finale

 

Quarterback Graham Beckman played strong, completing 14 of 18 passes for 269 yards and four touchdowns, Gazette correspondent Ryan Pleggenkuhle writes.

Marion gives Thomas Park proper farewell with 42-13 win over Waterloo East

 

The lights went out at Thomas Park Field for the last time. Having served as the home for Marion football since 1936, the Wolves will move into a brand new facility next season. Marion provided a proper farewell Friday night, Gazette correspondent Culley Kline writes.

Cedar Rapids Xavier wraps up undefeated regular season with win over Oskaloosa

 

Xavier used the big play early and often, rolling to a 52-6 win, Gazette correspondent Mike Condon writes.

Newton likely in the playoffs

 

There will be a three-way tie for second in the Class 4A District 4 standings. Newton beat Clear Creek Amana 27-0, while Pella beat No. 10 Cedar Rapids Washington 47-14. The Cardinals likely get the bid with the best RPI of the group.
