No. 10 Cedar Rapids Prairie got back on the winning track, led by Makelle Taylor, who tied a school record for most touchdowns in a game with five, Gazette correspondent Ryan Pleggenkuhle writes.
Here are the 2A, 1A, A and 8-Player playoff qualifiers
First-round matchups will be reveleaed Saturday at 10 a.m.
The postseason begins next Friday at 7 p.m. with the round of 32. Teams in 2A, 1A and A earned their spots with top-four district finishes, while the top three teams in each 8-Player district advanced, along with two at-large qualifiers based on point differential. Winfield-Mount Union and Bedford earned those spots.
Classes 5A, 4A and 3A still have one more regular-season week remaining and begin their postseason next Friday with the round of 16.
Solon handles Grinnell to clinch district championship
On the strength of five forced first-half turnovers and a monster night from quarterback/defensive back Blake Timmons, the Class 3A seventh-ranked Spartans ran away from Grinnell, 51-7, Friday night in a battle of District 5 unbeatens, Gazette correspondent Culley Kline writes.

How the ranked teams fared in Week 8
Twenty-four Iowa high school football teams remained undefeated entering Week 8 of the 2022 season.
We knew at least one would fall Friday night — No. 4 Underwood beat No. 5 Carroll Kuemper 28-20 in a Class 1A battle of unbeatens.
Two more did, as well. In Class 3A, No. 5 Nevada knocked off second-ranked Humboldt, 16-8. Meanwhile, Columbus Community’s unbeaten run ended by the narrowest of margins, 32-31 in overtime to Class A No. 10 Alburnett.

Mitchell Johnson's 2-yard TD pass to Josh Beatty and the ensuing Daniel Bass PAT with 5:21 to go proved to be the game-winning score for the Mustangs in a pivotal district game. Independence is now 8-1 overall and 4-0 in the district.

We should have known what was in store when Ben Kueter ran for a 72-yard touchdown on the first play of the game. He added a 3-yard TD run, touchdown catches of 41 and 8 yards and a kickoff return TD. That's five total touchdowns, if you're counting at home.

After a scoreless first quarter, Columbus Community is on the board against A No. 10 Alburnett in a battle for the district title.
Columbus is the only undefeated team unranked in The Gazette poll. The Wildcats will finish with a winning record for the first time since 1998.
