How the ranked teams fared

 

Week 6 brought us at least one top-10 matchup in every Iowa high school football class. Class 3A alone had three of them.

 

Three games statewide featured undefeated teams going head-to-head — and all three were one-sided in favor of the higher-ranked team. No. 3 Adel ADM beat No. 6 Creston 38-7 in 3A, No. 3 West Branch handled No. 7 Durant 49-13 in 1A and top-ranked Remsen St. Mary’s put up a 61-13 win over No. 4 Newell-Fonda in 8-Player.

The Muscatine running back went for 400-plus yards in a 42-31 win over Dubuque Hempstead, including a 98-yard touchdown run.

In an 8-Player classic, the Wolves (5-1) hand GTRA its first loss.

Another great 5A game in central Iowa. It's looking like the Hawks (5-1) will keep the top ranking in our poll, though a couple other teams are getting first-place votes.

Final: 2A No. 2 Williamsburg 56, Mid-Prairie 7

 

Quite possibly the toughest opponent Williamsburg will face in its district and it ends in a rout.

The Rams' firepower is too much for the host Lions.

The Mustangs go on the road and pull away from a good Assumption team to improve to 6-0.

Waukon takes control of this district race, improving to 3-3 after an 0-3 start. This is Wahlert's first loss to a 2A team.

The Blazers climbed back into the rankings this week, but the Sailors cruised to a 28-point win at home to improve to 3-3.

The Wolverines (5-1) hand the rival Falcons their first loss.

Final: 4A No. 3 Cedar Rapids Xavier 47, Pella 0

 

These two have had some classic playoff games over the years, but the Saints are 6-0 this season while the Dutch are 0-6.

Mitchell Johnson rushed for 158 yards and a TD and passed for 133 and a TD for the 6-1 Mustangs.

Clear Creek Amana got within one score of Cedar Rapids Washington, but the Warriors went to the air to extend the lead.

The Falcons will take a 6-0 record to Kingston Stadium next week to face Cedar Rapids Kennedy, their toughest test yet.

West Hancock (6-0) stays undefeated. Both of HMS's losses have been to top-ranked teams at the time (West Sioux, now No. 2 in 1A is the other).
