Mount Vernon is masterful in a first-round rout
Fourth-ranked Mount Vernon played loose, free and brilliantly, smoking No. 6 Harlan, 67-25, in a Class 3A quarterfinal at the girls’ state basketball tournament Monday night at Wells Fargo Arena.
Final: Des Moines Christian 49, Benton Community 46
Des Moines Christian (24-1) got 17 points apiece from Addy Oetker and Abby Hall and avenged last year's state quarterfinal loss to the Bobcats. McKenna Kramer also had 17 points for Benton (18-7), Emma Townsley 15.

She made 8 of 7 shots from the floor, including 4 of 7 from 3-point range, and 9 of 10 from the free-throw line. Katelyn Muller added 15 points. Jessie Clemons led the Spartans with 16.

Drake commit Grace Knutson poured in 34 points on 12-of-23 shooting, including 8-of-15 from 3-point range to lead the seventh-ranked Tigers (23-1) to a Class 5A quarterfinal victory over No. 2 Davenport North (22-3). Karis Finley had 17 points and six assists.
Divine Bourrage totaled 24 points for the Wildcats. Makayla Farnum added 20.

Mara Yokei made two free throws with 1:22 remaining to give No. 4 Waukee (19-4) a 45-44 lead and the Warriors hung on for a Class 5A quarterfinal victory. Kirsten Hauck and Maryne Szalo both scored 10 points. Sophia Hope had nine and 13 rebounds.
Jaeden Pratt led No. 5 Centennial (14-9) with a game-high 22 points. The Jaguars were held scoreless for the last 2 1/2 mintues of the game.

The top-ranked Dragons (24-0) never trailed in the first Class 5A quarterfinal. Jenica Lewis led the way with 18 points, five rebounds, four assists and two blocks.
Tylee Weite had 12 points for Valley (13-11).
