Lisbon’s great 2nd half just a bit better than North Linn’s great 1st half
Lisbon’s football team scored a pair of touchdowns in a dominant second half to rally past North Linn, 14-6, in a Class A state playoff first-round game Friday night. North Linn appeared poised to spring an upset on the fifth-ranked Lions with a dominant first half that produced a 6-0 lead that could have been higher.
Linn-Mar stays close, but falls to No. 4 Pleasant Valley
In a season of what might have been, the Linn-Mar football team just did not have enough in Friday night’s regular-season finale against Class 5A No. 4 Pleasant Valley.
Prairie wins a ‘track meet’ for a spot in Class 5A playoffs
Four touchdowns from Casey Kelley highlighted the evening for the Hawks as Cedar Rapids Prairie clinched a spot in the Class 5A playoffs with a 45-38 win over Iowa City West.
Kennedy shuts out Davenport North to wrap up regular season
Methodical and efficient Cedar Rapids Kennedy left no doubt, beating Davenport North, 35-0, Friday night at Kingston Stadium.
Preston Ries stars again as Monticello advances in Class 2A playoffs
Preston Ries rushed for four touchdowns, passed for two more and amassed about 400 yards of offense, leading No. 4 Monticello to a 42-13 victory over North Fayette Valley in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs Friday night at Dean Nelson Field.
Final: West Delaware 27, DeWitt Central 8
Brent Yonkovic passed for 107 yards and rushed for 102 and was in on all four West Delaware touchdowns. Yonkovic scored two rushing TDs on runs of 3 and 6 yards, and passed for 23 and 14 yards to Seth Jackson for two more scores.
7 takeaways ‘fuel’ Central City to an 8-Player first-round win
Jayden Hanson’s first three interceptions of the season highlighted a seven-takeaway performance, and sixth-ranked Central City recovered from a sluggish first half to push past Lansing Kee, 52-28, in an 8-Player first-round playoff football game Friday night at the Alex Evans Athletic Complex.
Final: Cedar Rapids Prairie 45, Iowa City West 38
Prairie cements its place in the 5A playoffs. One of the more entertaining high school football games I've seen.

Casey Kelley gets free on the right edge for a 4-yard score, his fourth TD of the game.
Final: Independence 30, Center Point-Urbana 13
Trey Weber rushed for 176 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries. EJ Miller added 80 rushing yards and two TDs on 19 carries and also passed for 116 yards.
Final: Mediapolis 28, Anamosa 21
Reese Campbell and Jackson Hutcheson each scored two touchdowns as Mediapolis topped Anamosa, 28-21, in a Class 2A first round playoff game. Anamosa quarterback Vince Diers was 24-of-40 passing for 224 yards and three TDs.
Prairie 38, Iowa City West 30 (8:42 4th)
Wallace connects with Loveless for a 61-yard TD. Just like that, West is within a score.
FINAL: #6 Central City 52, Kee 28.
Wildcats 8-1, advance to 2nd round.
Hawks finish 5-4.
Final: West Branch 35, Pleasantville 20
Three West Branch backs rushed for over 100 yards. Cale Seydel rushed for 160, Brennen Dale 134 and Auron Marsh 105 as the Bears gained 398 rushing yards.

Jack Wallace scrambles to his left and finds Damari Lacy open in the end zone for a 15-yard score. Wallace then throws to Zion Shaw for the 2-point conversion.

North Linn leads Lisbon at halftime, 6-0.
The only points in this game have come courtesy of NL quarterback Jake Van Etten, who broke loose on a keeper to the right side and scored a touchdown from 31 yards. The extra point was wide right.
North Linn has dominated this game statistically, running 34 offensive plays to Lisbon's 15. North Linn has 206 yards rushing and 228 total yards to Lisbon's 12 total yards.
The Lynx have been hurt by a fumble and six penalties.

I am in Monticello at Dean Nelson Field for the Class 2A football playoff first-round game between North Fayette Valley (3-5) and the host Panthers (7-1). Monticello likes to light up the scoreboard. NFV is still run-oriented but open things up more than usual.

The press box is roomy, the people are friendly and the crock pots are on.
Lansing Kee (5-3) vs. #6 Central City (7-1) in an 8-Player first-round football game. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
Lisbon-North Linn preparing for Class A playoff first-rounder at Wallner Field. Despite three inches-plus of rain last week, this grass field looks terrific!
These Linn County rivals didn't play each other in the regular season. Lisbon (8-0) is ranked fifth by The Gazette, its closest game a 34-28 win over Columbus Junction.
North Linn (6-2) finished fourth in a tough district, losing to Maquoketa Valley (22-15) and East Buchanan (41-14).
