Iowa City West handles Cedar Rapids Washington, stays in 5A playoff picture
Sitting at No. 15 in the Class 5A RPI rankings, Iowa City West needed a home victory Friday to boost their playoff position before facing two ranked opponents to close the regular season. West did what it needed to do — and then some with a 58-8 rout of Cedar Rapids Washington.
Coleton Beasler-Weber’s punt return TDs highlight Xavier’s win over Oskaloosa
Coleton Beasler-Weber returned a pair of punts for scores and added a third on a 24-yard run as No. 6 Xavier rolled to a 42-0 homecoming win over the Indians on a blustery night at Saints Field.
Solon defense shines in win over No. 1 Williamsburg
Multiple times the Solon defense hoisted the team on its shoulders Friday night, canceling out short fields and turnovers, limiting scores and putting up points of their own in the No. 7 Spartans’ 21-14 victory over top-ranked Williamsburg in a Class 3A District 5 battle at Spartan Stadium. Solon won its sixth straight game and took control of the district title race.
Prairie picks up a comfortable win over Jefferson in the Kolache Bowl
Class 5A 10th-ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie has played a meat grinder of a 2023 football season, but the Hawks have survived it and blew past Cedar Rapids Jefferson, 48-7, Friday night in the Kolache Bowl at Kingston Stadium.
Maquoketa Valley outlasts North Linn in the mud
Lance McShane scored the go-ahead touchdown, a 5-yard surge on fourth-and-4 with 4:04 left, and Maquoketa Valley out-mudded North Linn, 22-15, in a Class A District 4 football showdown Friday night at Maquoketa Valley High School.
Final: Camanche 43, Anamosa 28
Quarterback Bryce Buckley rushed for one touchdown and threw for three more.
Austin Scranton rushed 28 times for 108 yards and scored two touchdowns for the Raiders.
Regina cleans up mistakes against Beckman
Following a difficult loss to a rival, Iowa City Regina was in need of a palette cleanser. The Regals wiped the slate clean and got back to their high-flying ways, dispatching Dyersville Beckman, 48-21, Friday night in prep football game at Regina.

Preston Ries rushed for 180 yards and four touchdowns, and passed for 120 yards.

The 3A No. 7 Spartans hand the top-ranked Raiders their first loss.

A blocked extra point with 9:04 left in the game was the difference. A 29-yard pass from Brent Yonkovic to Conrad Smith pulled the Hawks within one.

E.J. Miller had 279 passing yards and 76 rushing yards. He completed 13 of 21 passes with 2 TDs. Brady Kurt caught 6 passes for 106 yards and a TD.

The Class 1A eighth-ranked Bears led most of the way, but No. 5 Wilton rallied to stay undefeated.

Coleton Beasler-Weber returned a pair of first-half punts for scores and added a third on a 24-yard run as the Saints (No. 6 Class 4A) rolled to a homecoming victory at Saints Field.
Beasler-Weber opened the scoring with his first punt return of 76 yards then, after running for a 24-yard score, added a 70-yard punt return TD for Xavier (5-2).
Carter Hoffman caught a pair of TD passes from Ronan Thomas. Noah Schimberg had a TD run and rushed for 103 yards on 11 carries as the Saints played reserves the entire second half.

Solon takes over with 1:21 left in the first half and goes 64 yds on six plays. Conlon Poynton punches it in for a 1-yard, go-ahead TD with :02.7 left before the half.
The TD set up by a 40-yd pass from Tyler Bell to Eddie Johnson, who caught a pass in middle of the field and fought to the 1.
Halftime at the Kolache Bowl. And it's all Cedar Rapids Prairie, which has a 34-0 lead on Cedar Rapids Jefferson.
Collin Velky has three carries for the Hawks and they've all been touchdowns, from 1, 2 and 6 yards. Apollo Payne has a pair of touchdown receptions from quarterback Will Phillips.
Prairie has outgained Jefferson by a 278-6 margin.

Fast and furious play helps Kennedy to fifth straight victory
Cedar Rapids Kennedy posted its second shutout of the season, Vicenzo Gianforte passed for four TDs and helped the offense amass 462 yards and the Cougars earned their fifth straight victory. Class 5A No. 3 Kennedy thumped Dubuque Hempstead, 44-0, Thursday night at Kingston Stadium.
