Lachey's injury is 'farily significant'
Iowa tight end Luke Lachey’s injury is “fairly significant,” head coach Kirk Ferentz said after Saturday’s 41-10 win over Western Michigan.
Final: Iowa 41, Western Michigan 10
Iowa football overcame some dark clouds — literal and metaphorical — in its win over Western Michigan on Saturday.
Touchdown Iowa
The Hawkeyes add on with a 2-yard Max White touchdown run on fourth down.
That was a six-play, 33-yard drive with Deacon Hill in at quarterback after a WMU turnover on downs.
Iowa 41, Western Michigan 10 (0:30 4th)
Iowa adds 3 more
Drew Stevens kicked a 31-yard field goal.
That came after a wild sequence when Cade McNamara was hit as the threw and Logan Jones ended up touching the "pass" leading to a long review.
The Hawkeyes did have more success on the ground on that nine-play, 56-yard drive. They're up to 251 yards rushing in the game.
Iowa 34, Western Michigan 10 (5:20 4th)
Iowa didn't have a penalty last week against Iowa State and doesn't have one again today. How about that?
Update: Iowa is flagged for the first time with 5:23 left.
Back-to-back sacks of Cade McNamara, and Tory Taylor takes the field.
Penalty saves Iowa
Western Michigan appeared to connect on another big pass for a touchdown, but the play was called back for an ineligible receiver. The Hawkeyes caught a break.
After another WMU punt was almost blocked, Iowa takes over at its 27.
Iowa 31, Western Michigan 10 (13:54 4th)
Touchdown Iowa
Kamari Moulton stretched to try to score his second touchdown but lost the ball. Luckily for Iowa, Steven Stilianos recovered and Moulton scored on a 1-yard run on the next play. Drew Stevens kicked the extra point.
And the Hawkeyes have crossed the 25-point threshold for the first time this season.

Touchdown Iowa
Iowa kept the ball on the ground on that drive and why not? The Hawkeyes went 53 yards on six plays, all rushes.
Kamari Moulton capped it with a 3-yard touchdown, the first TD of his career. Moulton ran for 35 yards on five attempts on the drive. Leshon Williams had the other 18.
Iowa went for two and converted with Cade McNamara finding Erick All, who withstood a big hit at the goal line.

Kirk Ferentz on radio: "The obvious story right now is a couple big plays and then two turnovers. That's just not good football, so we need to really knuckle down."
Halftime: Iowa 14, Western Michigan 10
Not a pretty first half for Iowa. Cade McNamara is 5-of-13 with two TDs and two INTs.
Leshon Williams is a bright spot with 127 rushing yards on 10 carries and a 25-yard touchdown catch.
McNamara throws his second pick
After finding some success through the air with a 13-yard pass to Seth Anderson and a pass interference penalty, Cade McNamara threw a pair of incompletions, then took a shot to the end zone that Keni-H Lovely intercepted.

Another chance for Iowa ...
The Hawkeyes used two timeouts at the end of the half wisely (but then their third after a third-down incomplete pass). A Western Michigan false start on third-and-2 helped lead to a three-and-out.
The Broncos were also penalized for illegal formation on the punt and Iowa now has another chance to score before the break, starting at its 41 with 1:04 to go.
Touchdown Iowa: Hawkeyes take the lead
Punting is winning?
Tory Taylor pinned Western Michigan at the 1. After a three-and-out, Cooper DeJean returned the WMU punt 18 yards to the 25.
And on the first play of the drive, Leshon Williams took a screen pass from Cade McNamara 25 yards to the end zone to give the Hawkeyes the lead. Drew Stevens kicked the extra point.

A chance for Iowa
Western Michigan went nowhere on a drive that started at its 1. Cooper DeJean returned the ensuing punt 18 yards to the WMU 25 with 1:37 left.
Iowa's passing attack isn't working
Leshon Williams has 127 yards rushing on 10 carries, but the Iowa passing game hasn't connected.
Cade McNamara was almost picked off again, then his third-and-10 pass was caught by a Western Michigan staffer on the sideline. McNamara is 3-for-7 for 15 yards.
Tory Taylor's punt was downed at the 1 by T.J. Hall and Luke Elkin.
Western Michigan 10, Iowa 7 (2:39 2nd)
Another big play from Leshon Williams. This time, a gain of 28. With the way WMU blitzes, there will be opportunities if you can find a hole.
Western Michigan retakes the lead
Western Michigan drove inside the Iowa 10 but settled for a 27-yard Palmer Domschke field goal to go back in front.
It was a nine-play, 66-yard drive.
The Broncos picked up 43 yards on Treyson Bourget's pass to Blake Bosma while the I-O-W-A chant was still echoing around Kinnick.
Bourget also converted a third-and-7 with a 9-yard run to the outside on that drive.
Western Michigan 10, Iowa 7 (4:45 2nd)
Touchdown Iowa
The Hawkeyes finally get on the board with Diante Vines' first career touchdown, a 3-yard pass from Cade McNamara on third-and-goal.
Leshon Williams' 53-yard run set up the score.
It was a five-play, 66-yard drive.

Leshon Williams starts the drive at RB. Jaziun Patterson is on the sidelines with his helmet on.
Western Michigan drive stalls
Iowa was all over a third-and-long screen pass, with Jay Higgins getting pressure and Sebastian Castro basically leaping over a lineman for a TFL.
Iowa gets the ball back at its 34 after Cooper DeJean makes something out of nothing on a 28-yard punt return.
Western Michigan 7, Iowa 0 (11:01 2nd)
End 1st: Western Michigan 7, Iowa 0
Close to worst-case scenario here at Kinnick. Offense, defense and special teams all struggle, and Iowa is without its top receiver (Lachey heads to the locker room on crutches).
From bad to worse
Drew Stevens pulls a 41-yard field-goal attempt wide left.
An eight-play, 44-yard drive for the Hawkeyes with no points.
Western Michigan 7, Iowa 0 (1:28 1st)
Bad sequence for the Hawkeyes
Cade McNamara's third-and-3 pass to Luke Lachey was broken up, and it would have been short of the first-down marker anyway. Then Lachey stayed down on the field injured and was helped off the field without putting weight on his right leg.
It's fourth-and-3 for the Hawkeyes at the WMU 23 with 1:31 left in the opening quarter.
Game has resumed
Cade McNamara completed an 8-yard pass to tight end Steven Stilianos on the first play after about a 40-minute weather delay. That's also the first play of the possession after the WMU touchdown.
Most fans didn't even leave the stands.
Big cheer from the Kinnick crowd as both teams retake the field. Estimated restart time is 3:41 p.m.
Weather delay
The official just announced the game has been delayed due to lightning. That's an automatic 30-minute delay.
Western Michigan leads 7-0 with 5:33 left in the first quarter.
Touchdown Western Michigan
Treyson Bourget hit Anthony Sambucci in stride down the sideline for a 64-yard touchdown pass.
Bourget got the Broncos out of their own end zone on the first play of the drive with a 29-yard run. Add it all up and it's a four-play, 96-yard scoring drive for the Broncos.

McNamara sacked
This time Cade McNamara couldn't escape (or throw it away) on third-and-4. Western Michigan's Marshawn Kneeland sacked him for a 15-yard loss and the Hawkeyes punted.
WMU starts at its 4 after Cooper DeJean downed another gorgeous Tory Taylor punt.
Iowa 0, Western Michigan 0 (7:35 1st)
McNamara looks healthy
Cade McNamara took off on third-and-4 and comfortably picked up the first down with an 8-yard run to the WMU 43.
Update: I might walk that headline back just a bit. Replays on the BTN broadcast showed him wincing after the play.
Western Michigan goes three-and-out
The Broncos were flagged for pass interference on first down and netted minus-11 yards on their first drive.
Iowa gets it back just shy of midfield.
Iowa 0, Western Michigan 0 (11:52 1st)
Cade McNamara picked off
Western Michigan's Damari Roberson intercepted Cade McNamara's first pass attempt of the game.
Kaleb Brown had just picked up a first down with a 9-yard run, but now the Broncos take over at their 24.
