Yee haw! Western Dubuque goes back to back
As a team bonding thing, players on Western Dubuque’s baseball team began wearing cowboy hats to and from games as the postseason began. Friday night they were wearing championship caps after a 6-2 win over North Polk gave the Bobcats their second consecutive state title.
Beckman claims its 7th state title
Luke Sigwarth allowed just one run in five innings, nearly doubling his season total, Luke Schieltz had three hits and three RBIs and No. 3 Beckman pulled away for a 7-1 victory over No. 5 Underwood for the Class 1A state championship Friday at Merchants Park. The title is Beckman’s seventh and first since 2017.

Here is the final out and some celebration. pic.twitter.com/pKLLTX6yXj
BECKMAN 7, UNDERWOOD 1, End of 6th
The Blazers with a 4-spot in the bottom of the sixth. Luke Schieltz with a big 2-run single. Should just about ice this one.
BECKMAN 3, UNDERWOOD 1, Mid 6th
The Blazers are just three outs away from a title. Rob Kronlage comes into relieve Sigwarth and strikes out the side in the sixth.
In the semifinal, Beckman was able to pull Kronlage after 2 innings and 24 pitches with a big early lead against West Lyon. The Blazers have their No. 2 starter to finish this off.
BECKMAN 3, UNDERWOOD 1, End 5th
Blazers get a couple on but that's it. On to the 6th
WHOA, NELLY! SIGWARTH GETS OUT OF A JAM
Underwood loaded the bases with none out in the top of the fifth. Sigwarth gets an infield pop out to SS Nate Offerman for the first out. Next at-bat, Sigwarth gets a hared grounder to second baseman Jake Schmidt, who delivers a perfect flip to Offerman coming across the bag throwing a strike to first for a 4-6-3 double play. Could be the biggest sequence of the game.
BECKMAN 3, UNDERWOOD 1, End of 4th
Blazers get a single from Jake Schmidt but that's it.
BECKMAN 3, UNDERWOOD 1, Mid of 4th
Luke Sigwarth only pitched 5 2/3 in the regular season. He had a 1-0 record with one save, BUT he had eight walks/hbp. He's been on point here, holding Underwood to one run on four hits through 3 1/2.
BECKMAN 3, UNDERWOOD 1, End of 3rd
Beckman answers Underwood's one in the top of the third. Dylan Recker with a leadoff walk followed by a Drew Thier single to bring up the top of the batting order. Luke Schieltz with a base hit to score Recker. Nate Offerman drove in Thier with a groundout. Matt Florence added an RBI single to score Schieltz.
Special Lisbon senior class ends state baseball run with runner-up finish
Lisbon’s special run has come to an end. No. 3 Remsen St. Mary’s stopped No. 9 Lisbon, 7-4, to capture the Class 1A state baseball championship Friday afternoon at Merchants Park. The Hawks won their fifth state title and first since 2016.
1A Championship Final: Remsen St. Mary's 7, Lisbon 4
Lions are runners up for the second time since 2018 and made just their third title game appearance. They finished with a 27-5 record.
RSM won its fifth title and first sicne 2016. The Hawks end the season 32-2.
LISBON'S LAST CHANCE
Hunter Clark and Brayden Boots turned a nice P-1/1-3 double play in the bottom of the sixth.
Lisbon's trail 7-4 with 9-1-2 (Dakota Clark-Kamaus-Bock) due up in the top of the 7th
ST. MARY'S 7, LISBON 4
The Lions scratch one across in the sixth, but had two base runners thrown out on different plays. Czarnecki reached on a fielder's choice and made it to third on a Caspers single. He scampered home when RSM threw down and caught Caspers trying stealing second.
ST. MARY'S 7, LISBON 3, End of 5th
The Hawks produced a three-run fifth. Schroeder walked to leadoff and Ortmann followed with his second double of the game . An intentional walk loaded the bases. Sacrifice bunts from Pick and Isaiah Gerrietts sandwiched a Landon Waldschmitt RBI single.
ST. MARY'S 4, LISBON 3, End of 4th
Nothing for Hawks in the fourth. Hunter Clark threw 87 pitches in the quarterfinal. He has thrown 49 thus far. Pitching rules limit 180 total in a week. Clark has 44 pitches left. Could be enough to get him through the seventh, but that might be a factor. Interesting who Lions have to bring in with Kamaus unavailable.
ST. MARY'S 4, LISBON 3, Mid 4th
Lisbon rallies for three. Hunter Clark and Luke Czarnecki singled for their second hits of the game. Kaden Caspers was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Aiden Jensen stepped to the plate with two outs. He fouled off a handful of two-strike pitches before a Texas League single into shallow right field. Ball bounced awat from RF, allowing him to move to second. All three runners scored.
Lions needed that, desperately.
ST. MARY'S 4, LISBON 1, End of 3rd
Hawks pull away a bit here. The top of the order come through. Bunkers leads off getting hit by a pitch and Alex Schroeder reaches on an infield single when defenders have some miscommunication fielding a bunt. After a flyout, Collin Homan delivered a two-run triple to RF. Hunter Pick followed with an RBI single.
ST. MARY'S 1, LISBON 0, End of 2nd
The Lions suffered some baserunner miscues (fielder caleld out for interference, running into the SS while going from second to third on a grounder; pick off at first for third out).
Hunter Clark with an impressive second, retiring RSM in order. Two good plays by second baseman Alex Bock.
ST. MARY'S 1, LISBON 0, End of 1st
Both teams strand two runners. St. Mary's did a plate a run. Jaxon Bunkers reached on a single and scored on Cael Ortmann's double.
